Willem George Frederik Jansen (1871 - 1949)
Willem George Frederik Jansen (1971 - 1949), The Hague School.
Life and work: He was born December 25, 1871 in Harlingen and died June 21, 1949 in Blaricum. He was destined to become a machinist, but at the age of 21 he decided to choose to become an artist. He attended the Applied Arts School in Haarlem, became a pottery painter and head designer at the Rozenburg ceramics factory in The Hague. When he settled permanently in Blaricum in 1908, he worked entirely as a painter. Jansen painted, watercoloured, drew, etched and lithographed landscapes, river views, city and beach views in the style of the Hague School. He is considered one of the after-growth of that school.
He is known as a skilled painter with a smooth brushwork and a beautiful use of color. His work has been purchased by the Singer Museum in Laren and the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen. In 2010, an extensive catalog about his work and life was published by Hugo ter Avest following a retrospective exhibition in Museum Het Hannemahuis in his birthplace Harlingen.
